What happens at each stage of the assessment?
You see the same consultant psychiatrist, Dr Harsha Gopisetty, from start to finish, and you only move to the next stage if it's right for you.
The £1,100 total includes £100 for the QbTest. If you have private medical insurance or a health plan through work, check whether your policy covers an ADHD assessment before you book.

What will the psychiatrist ask me?
The psychiatrist asks about the history of your symptoms, particularly whether they started when you were a child and how they affected you at school (NHS.uk).
You'll also talk about:
- your work, studies and daily routine
- your relationships with family and friends
- your physical and mental health, including any medicines you take
The psychiatrist may also ask to speak to someone who knows you well, such as a partner or parent.

What is a QbTest?
A QbTest is a computer-based test that measures attention, impulsivity and activity. Your psychiatrist decides whether it will help in your case.
It's one part of the assessment, used alongside your clinical interview and questionnaires. It isn't used on its own to diagnose ADHD.
How should I prepare for an ADHD assessment?
Gather examples from childhood and adult life, because the psychiatrist will ask how your symptoms have affected you over time.
- School reports, if you still have them
- A few examples of how focus, organisation or restlessness affect your work and home life
- A list of any medicines you take and other health conditions
- The name of someone who knew you as a child, if they're willing to talk to the psychiatrist
- Your completed questionnaires, before your diagnostic appointment

What happens after the assessment?
At the end of your diagnostic consultation, the psychiatrist explains the outcome and your next steps. If you're diagnosed with ADHD, you'll get a clear plan.
- Follow-up psychiatrist reviews: £250 per session
- ECG and blood tests, where needed: £185
- Shared care handover report for your NHS GP, where suitable: £250
- Reviews after a successful handover to your NHS GP: £150
Many NHS GPs will work with a private diagnosis, but whether they agree to share your care is their decision. If the outcome isn't ADHD, the psychiatrist will still explain the result and your next steps.
Is an NHS assessment any different?
An NHS assessment covers similar ground. It's carried out by an ADHD specialist, such as a psychiatrist, after a referral from your NHS GP. It's free, but waits can be several months or years (NHS.uk).
In England, you can also ask your NHS GP about Right to Choose, which lets you choose an NHS-funded provider that may have a shorter wait. SABA doesn't offer Right to Choose assessments.
